AUSTRIAN CULTURAL FORUM

FACADE RENOVATION

NEW YORK, USA

INSITUTIONAL

11,000 sq ft

2017

The narrow midblock tower houses the Austrian Cultural Forum, an agency of the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Inside are squeezed a gallery, theater, offices, and residence for the agency director. The building, completed in 2002, was designed by the world-renowned architect Raimund Abraham, now-deceased, and was widely praised both upon the unveiling of the design and the opening of the building
We worked to bridge the cultural differences in communication and construction methods, and coordinate the project team to upgrade the unique building facade. We were tasked with renovating the rooftops and facades of the building so they would perform as originally intended, providing protection from the elements, and have a clean, crisp appearance. All of this had to be done with minimal interruption to the regular operation of the Cultural Forum and no change to the visible details of the failing façade.
